Forum on Contemporary Japanese Literature in East Asia
Our purpose
This forum brings together Japanese studies scholars from South Korea, China, Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong to expand the horizons of research and reconstruct modern Japanese literary studies from an East Asian perspective by sharing and comparing the unique characteristics and historical contexts of their respective fields.
East Asia has a history of close relations in various academic fields, including politics, economics, history, culture, and literature, mainly due to Japan's imperial expansion. In recent years, a lively debate has emerged about sublating a contradiction in traditional literary studies, which centers on the literature of a single country or canonical works, reflecting the current situation. We strive to transcend national boundaries and dismantle the homogenized concept of East Asia that has prevailed in the past, promoting open solidarity in the region. This forum was established as a venue for ongoing discussions and debate.
The results obtained through this forum will be published in Japanese, Chinese, and Korean to share the discussion points and contribute to future research widely.
